Expedition FINSE 2007 January 10, 2007 at 7:34 pm

Perhaps because of my own ego, perhaps because of my feeling of freedom, a bit of adrenaline, adventure.… maybe just because I can, I’m lucky and have enthusiasm to travel. Again and again I can feel the freedom, liberation from day-to-day worries. I have a chance to live different sometimes almost dreamed-of live. Just as well because of that uncertainty, thrill, sometimes a bit of fear, this all, of course, belong to traveling. What is awaiting me and what I will have to deal with. Over there, on my journeys.

Also for the memories, pictures of places I’ve been to, thousands of moments and feelings saved in my head that shall never be erased. Just as well the experience, realization and point of view, everything that will create one day the person who I am. I would have thousands of reasons, thousands of answers to the question “Why”…

Finse 2007 is my next expedition or somebody could call it a trip. Reason – everything that I’ve mentioned in above lines and more. It should be also a little training for bigger and more adventurous expeditions. Perhaps the third attempt of Vatnajökull glacier traverse in Iceland or crossing of the ice sheet in Greenland.

This time, I chose national park Hardangervidda in Norway as my destination. It is actually hight plateau which bears the same name and covers most of the park. This plateau described in guidebooks as the most southern area with Arctic conditions was a popular place for many adventurers, Arctic explorers and other people with similar desires since beginning of the last century. The main reason was the weather conditions which were very similar to those in Greenland, South and North Pole. Among people who chose this plateau as training for their expeditions were for example: Fridjof Nansen – first traverse of ice sheet in Greenland in 1888, Roald Amundsen – first person who reached the South Pole in 1911, nowdays Rune Gjednes – first unsupported and to this day not repeated traverse of the North Pole in 2000, Borge Ousland – first solo traverse of Antarctica in 1996. Roald Amundsen was also the first person to successfully traverse Hardangervidda in winter. Our goal is very similar.

To traverse high plateau Hardangervidda in witner season.
