CROSSING OF MOUNTAIN PLATEAU HARDANGERVIDDA - EQUIPMENT
I am a perfectionist and will probably never stop playing around with tiny details of equipment until I have a feeling that everything is just perfect. I altered most of my tent, modified waist part of my backpack so I could attach straps of the sled to it, improved mounting of runners on my sled... Even satellite phone and PDA have not been spared! A number of cables and special charger had to be made so I could recharge both tools from regular AA batteries.
I believe that consistent preparation is almost fourth of the success. With the same passion I approach selecting each part of my equipment. It doesn’t matter who is the maker of particular item. I care much more about usage, quality of manufacturing and well-considered design. When I’m out there and the temperature drops to -10C with strong gusts of wind and fluries, I’m tired and hungry.... whatever I need at that moment must be of exceptional quality. Last thing I want to deal with in similar conditions are a broken zipper on my outer jacket or inconvenient (frozen) binding on the skis.
Following list is a summary of equipment which I take with me on similar expeditons to Finse 2007. It is a list of items which I consider lightest in weight, most essential and useful for the trips I make.
