imageI almost didn’t believe that the weather in Iceland could be nice! It’s been sunny the whole afternoon and I can even walk outside wearing t-shirt. What a nice difference compared to yesterday when despite wearing a fleece and jacket I still felt a bit chilly every now and then. Respectively, this morning was truly Icelandic – it was drizzling quite hard.

I got up at 4am and took off right away to pick up my sled. Return trip to airport takes at least two or three hours and I’d also have to go through customs and all necessary formalities. It is also a question how I’d manage to transport the sled from Cargo back to the terminal building from where the bus to Reykjavík leaves. Originally, I was planning to take a taxi for that very short distance but in the end, I’m able to manage by myself. Once in the terminal building, I’m steeling, ergo borrowing, a cart and despite being closely watched by airport security, I’m heading with it towards approximately 1,5 km distant Cargo. After last year’s experience, I know now where exactly to go and so in less than an hour and half, I’m on my way back to the terminal. It’s still drizzling but I guess I got used to it now and don’t care anymore.

Once on the bus, I’m trying to make up for the sleep a bit. I’m waking up the moment we enter the bus station. It seems like a miracle that it’s sunny outside! I’m quickly putting the sled into the left-luggage office and on the way to hostel I’m bying gas for my stove. I’m spending the rest of the day just wondering around the city taking photos.

I am going to move to town Kirkjubaejarklausturu tomorrow. Over there, I will be only 60 – 80 km away from the glacier.

This expedition is not about setting a record or about being first in something. It is much more important for me to give an example that inside, we have strength and abilities to reach our goals. I would like to show that with our own will, our goals can be achieved, even though it may seem almost impossible at the beginning.
