Expedition Loap Solo 2006česká verze Crossing of the largest European glacier Vatnajökull - solo and unsupported
Viva national holidays! Unfortunately, my worries were justified right after my arrival when I found out that the IcelandAir Cargo, where I was supposed to pick up my sled, is closed today. I did assume shops and banks would be closed but it surprised me a bit to find even Cargo closed. So I am getting on the bus to Reykjavik without my sled. I’m telling myself how smart it was not to pack everything into the sled but take the most important things with me on the plane. If I had put everything in the sled I would have had to wait at the airport until tomorrow.
I checked in Reykjavík City Hostel and after a little rest I went to the city. It almost seems that it was yesterday when I was here last time and not over a year ago! Even the weather is practically the same – typical Icelandic, with clouds all around. It looks like it will start raining any minute. Fortunately, it stays dry so I can stroll into old city of Reykjavík, park with botanical garden and harbour.
Around 7pm I decide to go back and instead of going through the city I walk along the shore. To my great surprise, I recognize on one of the parking lots, “Madla”! For those who don’t know yet, Madla is a terrain truck owned by travel agency Adventura which is supposed to take me back to Czech Republic in September. What an incredible coincidence! It’s a shame though that there’s only empty Madla on the parking lot. The guys are probably in the city doing sightseeing with tourists. I left a note on the windowshield at least to say that I spotted Madla and that I’m looking forward to meeting them in September.
A little note to the photo. As most of you guess, it is Vatnajokull Glacier on the picture. I managed to take the photo of it during the flight. Impressive view, indeed! Massive icecaps and volcano Orefajokull on its south side.

This expedition is not about setting a record or about being first in something. It is much more important for me to give an example that inside, we have strength and abilities to reach our goals. I would like to show that with our own will, our goals can be achieved, even though it may seem almost impossible at the beginning.
You're not gonna leave such an empty space here, right?
