Expedition Loap Solo 2006česká verze Crossing of the largest European glacier Vatnajökull - solo and unsupported
I will buy an ice-cream to anybody who can pronounce name of this little village correctly. I couldn’t do it even after hearing it for many times! The only thing I remember is that the end of the word sounds like „klystýr”* [kli’sti:r] I don’t want to risk biting my tongue so I changed the name of the cute little place to Kirkuklystýr. I boarded the bus with the map in my hand though, just in case I would have to show the driver where I need to go. In the end, I was spared of the jaw-breaker as well as the manoeuvering with the big map standing on the bus step and looking for Kirkuklystýr. It was enough to say Kirkubjabla and the driver knew right away what it is. What a smart guy!
The bus ride went by quite quickly. When I wasn’t writing (I was solving a problem with downloading photos to the website until midnight last night and got up at 4am again this morning to have enough time for packing and getting to the bus station on time.) I was just watching the scenery through the window. Mossy lava beds alternated with black sand plains. From time to time, the sea came into view when Ring Road, that’s how this road is called, drew a bit near the sea shore.
We arrive in Kirk about 1pm. The bus stop is right next to gas station which is also used as a reastaurant, internet café and information centre. I’m gathering the information right away about departure time of the bus to Laki tomorrow morning. I also manage to negotiate a storage of my sled in the gas station warehouse so I don’t have to drag the sled to the campsite and the next morning back to the station.
Today’s photo is from Vik settlement where we stopped for 40 minutes on the way to Kirk.
* klystyr is a Czech word for enema.

This expedition is not about setting a record or about being first in something. It is much more important for me to give an example that inside, we have strength and abilities to reach our goals. I would like to show that with our own will, our goals can be achieved, even though it may seem almost impossible at the beginning.
Good to hear that everything’s going well. Now the real adventure begins! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY AND BE SAFE!
