Expedition Loap Solo 2006česká verze Crossing of the largest European glacier Vatnajökull - solo and unsupported
History – On December 14, 1911 Roald Amundsen was the first man ever to reach the South pole. However, it took him another 72 days before he could announce his victory to the outside world. Almost 7 months since the expedition led by Amundsen left Madeira, last contact with civilization...
Present – This August, I will be sending messages about my progress on Expedition Loap Solo 2006 to this website. Thanks to internet, these messages typed on my PDA and sent through a satellite phone, will be available on-line for anybody in the world in „real” time.
„It seems strange to me that so many expeditions see sharing what they're doing, while they're doing it, as a secondary aim. That the only goal that matters is getting there and sticking the flag up, and that anything that might interfere with this goal can be dispensed with.” (Ben Saunders - solo expedition to the North Pole) As well as Ben, I am also quite surprised that even though there are so many expeditions going on nowdays, only very few of them make an afford and spend time to say something about their experience. Unlike Roald Amundsen mentioned above, we have internet and modern communication technologies that give us lots of options.
COMMUCATION SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONCommunication system – put together by myself, the system enables me to publish messages on this website from anywhere in the world using my satellite phone and PDA. The system is based on Wordpress, a blog publishing software accessible for free which is written in PHP language and backed by MySQL database. Together with other plug-ins, the WordPress manages securely the whole expedition blog – publishing of sent messages, visitors‘ comments, archives, etc. Single parts of the system were modified to reduce a size of transmitted data sent to the website during the uploads. It also lowers a price for satellite network connection. Messages, including HTML language, are written in text programme Word which is a part of operating system of pocket pc, PDA. I copy those messages into arranged Wordpress website saved in my PDA, attach an image from a digital camera and send it on the expedition website through a satellite phone. They are published there automatically. THIS WEBSITE AND W3C STANDARDSThe expedition website validates as a XHTML 1.0 Strict and comply with the industry standards set by the W3C. All the pages are styled with CCS2 and some parts of the website require Macromedia Flash Player. PHP is used for server side programing and the web site is hosted by hostgator.com. Even thought I did maximum to support all web browsers, you should download the most recent version of your web browser. |

This expedition is not about setting a record or about being first in something. It is much more important for me to give an example that inside, we have strength and abilities to reach our goals. I would like to show that with our own will, our goals can be achieved, even though it may seem almost impossible at the beginning.
